Many times, a smoothie does not require extra sweeteners, especially if you use ripe fruit. However, if you can get raw honey (pure, unheated, unpasteurized and unprocessed), it is worth adding just a little for the health benefits it gives.
Many folks have found that eating local raw honey can alleviate seasonal allergies.
The MayoClinic does not recommend giving raw honey to infants under one year as it can cause life-threatening illness.
