[Recipe] Mango Ginger Kale Green Smoothie

This delicious, fruity, green smoothie has just a hint of spice from the ginger. It is from Dana the MinimalistBaker who loves to keep her list of ingredients short. It’s always best to use fresh ingredients in season when you can find them, however, you can get such good quality frozen fruit and veggies now that you don’t really lose anything by using them frozen.

This is Dana’s new favorite smoothie. Here’s what she says …

My NEW favorite green smoothie that requires just 5 ingredients and is inspired by Jamba Juice! Tart and sweet thanks to kale, lemon, ginger, peaches, and mango! Super refreshing, detoxifying, and nourishing.

Recipe: Mango Ginger Kale Green Smoothie

Serves 2

Ingredients:

  • optional: 1 cup Ice
  • 2 cups (~ 60 g) Kale, packed, fresh or frozen (organic when possible)
  • 1 cup (165 g) ripe frozen Mango cubes (organic when possible)
  • 1 cup (150 g) ripe frozen Peaches (organic when possible)
  • 1 Tbsp (6 g) minced fresh Ginger
  • 1 1/2 – 2 Lemons or Limes, juiced (~1/4 cup or 60 ml)
  • 1 1/2 – 2 cups (360 – 480 ml) filtered Water
  • optional: 1 Tbsp (15 ml) Maple Syrup (depending on sweetness of fruit)

Directions:

  • Add ice to the blender first and crush.
  • Then add kale, mango, peaches, ginger, lemon juice (starting with 1 lemon (2 Tbsp or 30 ml) and working your way up) and 1 cup water (240 ml) to start. The amount of water will depend on how many of your ingredients are frozen.
  • Blend until smooth, only adding water a little at a time as needed, and scraping down the sides/mixing as needed.
  • Once well blended, taste and adjust seasonings as needed. If too tart, add more fruit or a little maple syrup (optional). For more zing, add ginger. And for more acidity, add more lemon juice. To make it thicker/colder, add more ice. Blend as needed.
  • Divide between two serving glasses and enjoy immediately. Best when fresh, though leftovers will keep covered in the refrigerator for 24 hours.

Transform Your Mornings with Simple Habits for Better Nutrition

Update The Power of Simple Morning Habits Do you often feel rushed in the morning? For many of us, the start of the day can feel like a whirlwind of activities, leaving little room for thoughtful meals or healthy choices. However, it turns out that small shifts in our morning routines can have a big impact on our energy levels and overall health. By making just a few minor adjustments, you can set yourself up for success throughout the day. Reassessing Your Juice Intake Many people enjoy a refreshing glass of juice to kickstart their mornings. But consuming juice on an empty stomach can lead to an energy spike that may leave you crashing shortly after. This happens because the sugar in juice enters your bloodstream too quickly without the balancing effects of protein or fat. It’s a simple fix: pair your juice with nutritious foods! Consider pairing it with hard-boiled eggs, Greek yogurt, or whole grain toast with nut butter to create a more balanced start to your day. Eating Dinner Earlier: A Habit That Transforms Mornings While it might seem unrelated, the timing of your dinner can significantly influence how you feel in the morning. Eating dinner a little earlier in the evening may support better metabolism and help you wake up feeling more energized. This small adjustment can prevent digestive discomfort that often results from heavy or late-night meals. Even shifting your dinner time ahead just a few nights a week can be enough to feel the benefits! Creating a Kitchen That Supports Healthy Choices The state of your kitchen can also play a role in the choices you make. If cooking feels cumbersome because pans stick or everything is disorganized, you're less likely to prepare a healthy meal. To make cooking more appealing, invest in a nonstick pan and a good-quality sheet pan. When cooking becomes easy and straightforward, it encourages you to choose homemade meals over processed ones, leading to healthier eating habits. Putting These Insights Into Action Implementing these changes doesn't require a complete overhaul of your life. Start by adding a healthy option to your morning juice, like a small breakfast side. Observe how a slight dinner adjustment improves your mornings. Finally, consider making your kitchen a more welcoming place for cooking. These small shifts can create a ripple effect, enhancing your nutrition and overall wellness without adding significant time or effort to your busy day. Connecting with Your Community for Greater Wellness Getting support can make a difference in maintaining these new habits. Consider reaching out to a health professional who specializes in nutrition, like a registered dietitian. They can help personalize your approach based on your lifestyle and preferences, giving you an essential resource to keep you accountable and motivated. Remember, improving your wellness doesn’t have to come from drastic changes. By refining your morning choices and kitchen environment, you can create a healthier lifestyle while juggling your busy schedule.

Fortunately, the 10-minute homemade sushi bowl is here to save the day! Rich in flavor, this quick dish caters to sushi lovers and anyone looking for an easy, nutritious meal. This article will guide you through creating a customizable sushi bowl that bursts with fresh ingredients and delightful textures. The Heart of the Bowl: Fresh Salmon and Flavorful Ingredients At the center of your sushi bowl, we have salmon—known as the king of seafood. Its rich omega-3 fatty acids promote heart health, making it a smart inclusion in any diet. You can use fresh salmon sashimi, smoked salmon, or even cooked salmon pieces to suit your taste and dietary needs. This flexibility makes the sushi bowl a perfect fit for leftovers, allowing you to marvelously utilize what’s on hand. Adding fresh vegetables like cucumber and carrots introduces a satisfying crunch, not only enhancing the bowl's flavor but also its eye appeal. Topping the dish with creamy avocado, zesty pickled ginger, and perhaps a sprinkle of sesame seeds creates a layered flavor experience, bridging the gap between health and indulgence. Customization: Your Personal Touch in Every Bowl One of the best parts about creating your own sushi bowl is how effortless it is to personalize! Swap the rice with cauliflower rice for a low-carb option or mix in edamame for an added protein kick. You can even switch up the proteins, with options like grilled shrimp or tofu for a vegetarian twist. The key is to make your sushi bowl work for you—whether it’s a quick lunch, a satisfying dinner, or even a meal prep item for your busy week ahead. Exploring Flavor with Sauce and Toppings A simple drizzle of sriracha mayo transforms the dish from ordinary to extraordinary. To create your sriracha mayo, mix mayonnaise with sriracha and a hint of sugar. Feel free to adjust the spiciness to your preference! For those who love a crunchy texture, homemade panko breadcrumbs sautéed in oil provide delightful crunchiness.
