Kids expend so much energy playing, especially playing sport and they want to drink the ‘neon-colored’ sports drinks they see promoted by healthy looking athletes – because they want to be just like them.
However, these supposedly “good-for-you” drinks leave a lot to be desired as they are full of artificial sweeteners, colorings and other additives.
Natalie Monson at SuperHealthyKids.com and warns …
Most energy drinks deliver a large dose of sugar and caffeine, both of which can have significant negative impact on kids including weight gain, ability to concentrate, headaches, nervousness, and difficulty sleeping.
So what’s the solution?
Recipe: 100% Natural Hydration Drink for Kids
Ingredients (Makes 1 quart)
3 cups of Coconut Water
1 cup 100% Apple Juice
1 cup Ice (or Water if not drinking immediately)
1/8 teaspoon Sea Salt
1 tablespoon raw Honey
Squeeze of Lime and Orange (optional)
Preparation:
Put all ingredients in a high powered blender, and blend for 1 minute.
Pour into containers and enjoy immediately or store in the fridge for later.
Will stay good in the fridge for 1 week.
Notes:
Ice is only necessary if you plan to drink it immediately.
If you plan to refrigerate it first, or your blender cannot cope with ice, you can add a cup of water instead of the ice, or simply add it afterwards.
There is some disagreement as to the wisdom of drinking ice-cold drinks when you are overheated. Go with caution if in doubt.
