Get ready for the cooler months of the year with Shira Bocar’s vitamin-packed smoothies!

Each one features natural fruits and veggies, fortified for heart-health, sometime with a few surprise ingredients! We’ve packed in 4 recipes for you, along with nutrition comments throughout.

With only 4 simple ingredients, this anti-oxidant rich Mango-Tahini Smoothie packs a powerful punch with plenty of vitamin C from the sweet mango. Enjoy!

Recipe 1. Tangy Tahini and Mango Smoothie

Tangy Tahini and Mango Smoothie

Chilled from the frozen mango chunks, but beautifully creamy from the tahini! Cheers!

Ingredients:

  • 1 Cup frozen Mango chunks

  • 1/2 Cup Water

  • 1 tbsp Tahini**

  • 1 tblsp Lime Juice

**blended sesame seeds – nutty flavor, healthy fats, plenty protein – something different!


Green smoothies are all the rage these days, and for good reason. This nutrient-packed elixir is a delicious way to detox your body while recharging your system with vital nutrients. It’s also a convenient way to get your daily dose of vitamins from a variety of leafy greens like romaine and kale and from refreshing fruits

Recipe 2. Green Machine Smoothie

Green Machine Smoothie

Missing out on veg recently? Try this green smoothie. Great way to start the day or perk-up in the afternoon!

BTW, save the pineapple rind to infuse your water.

Lots of greens in this smoothie, so its good to balance it out with the natural sweetness from chopped mango & chopped pineapple.

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 Cup chopped Pineapple

  • 1/2 Cup chopped Mango

  • 1 1/12 Cups Water

  • 1 tbsp chopped fresh peeled Ginger

  • 1/2 Cup Parsley leaves

  • 6 leaves of Romaine Lettuce

You probably need to blend at this point to make room for the rest of the items

  • 4 leaves of curly-leaf Kale (torn into smallish pieces)

Blend again to get uniform color, & a nice consistency

  • Optional – chill this with a handful of Ice cubes if you like

Result – a high fibre, high iron, high calcium, low calorie breakfast smoothie. Mmmmhhh!

Crammed full of fruit & vegetables this will keep you energised all day long.


Breakfast just became way more exciting with this protein-packed, antioxidant-rich, and incredibly satisfying smoothie! Creamy almond butter is blended with dates, blueberries, and banana adding multiple layers of sweetness. Flaxseeds, full of plant-based omega-3s, add another layer of nutrition and flavor.

Recipe 3. Blueberry-Almond Butter Smoothie

Blueberry-Almond Butter Smoothie

Smoothies are my favourite way to get so many nutritious ingredients into 1 glass for breakfast! This blueberry-almond butter smoothie has flax seeds – something always good to try to include in your diet.

Ingredients:

  • 1 ripe Banana – peeled

  • 3 Dates (pitted Medjool dates) – for sweetness

  • 1 tblsp fresh Lemon Juice

  • 3 tblsp Almond Butter**

  • 1 1/2 Cups Blueberries (frozen, if out of season) – if using fresh blueberries, add a couple of ice cubes

  • 2 tblsp whole Flax Seeds

  • 2 Cups Water

**adds tons of fibre, flavour, healthy fats, but more importantly, protein – which is what you need in the morning

Blend for a good 2 minutes to get a beautiful frothy texture and everything so well incorporated.

If you are trying to steer clear of dairy, this is a wonderful smoothie! Vibrant color, full of antioxidants. Wonderful breakfast!


Smoothies are one of the best ways to get your fresh fruits and vegetables at any time of day. The combination of nutrient-rich strawberries and grapefruit in this delicious drink really packs a healthy vitamin-C punch!

Recipe 4. Strawberry Grapefruit Smoothie

Strawberry Grapefruit Smoothie

This Strawberry Grapefruit Smoothie is invigorating, chock-full of vitamin-C, and makes a big batch (enough for 3 days)

Ingredients:

  • 1 Grapefruit, peeled, seeded, and chopped (see peeling tip in video)

  • 2 cups hulled fresh or frozen Strawberries

  • 1 sweet Apple (such as Honeycrisp or Pink Lady), cored and chopped

  • 1 inch fresh Ginger, peeled and chopped

  • 1 cup Water

Combine all ingredients in a blender and process until smooth.

One of the best things about smoothies is that you keep all the fibre from your fruits & vegetables. That really helps you feel fuller for longer & curbs snacking.
