As the days get shorter and shorter, have you forgotten already what the warm sun feels like? Well, i can’t give you the sun just yet, another few months to wait for that I’m afraid. Meanwhile we can indulge in some tropical dreaming. This smoothie will help you remember what it was like sitting on the beach sipping fruit cocktails in the sunshine and you can enjoy it all over again.
This recipe is from Krissy Allori at SelfProclaimedFoodie and you’ll find the details at the end of the post. Krissy reminisces, too, saying …
Right about this time of year, I also start to crave warm tropical beaches. That’s why I really love this smoothie. The combination of these tropical flavors is not only delicious, but they allow me to take a five minute mental journey to a warm beach near the equator.

* Protein Powder Alternatives:
While protein powders can be very convenient, they are not so friendly on the wallet, nor do they offer the same health benefits as ‘real’ nutrients in our food.
A few tips to try this instead:
- If you wish to increase your fiber and reduce your salt intake use real food for protein.
- Hemp seeds, for example, which ‘… contain loads of fiber, protein, vitamins, minerals and all 20 of the essential amino acids, including the 9 essential ones. And all of that supports just about every part of your body function. You need hemp seeds in your life, period.’ (MinimalistBaker)
- Switch to Yogurt instead of water for protein and a healthy dose of probiotics.
- Add Pumpkin Seeds for healthy fats that protect your heart and brain.
- Add oats for soluble fiber that will make you feel full and keep you going till lunch.
