Do you need to empty your freezer of last year’s cranberries to make room to store the new season berries? That’s what Mike at TheIronYou found was his next task when he started to clean out his freezer. We won’t go into what all else he found there, lol! Suffice to say he had frozen cranberries and frozen strawberries.
It doesn’t sound too many miles from my freezer at the moment. So I think I’ll join him in clearing out the old and making room for the new season’s produce.
So, to take advantage of this abundance, Mike decided to make an antioxidant smoothie bomb! And he says it was …
… delicious, in all respects.
To offset the cranberries’ tartness and green tea’s slight bitterness I blended them with some strawberries, a banana, and I also added a tablespoon of maple syrup.
All in all, a tasty and healthy smoothie with a very pretty red-flecked pink color.
Slight tart, super creamy, not too filling, and packed with nutrients, vitamins, and antioxidants to keep your immune system strong.
Recipe: Sweet and Tart Cranberry Green Tea Smoothie
Serves 2
118 cals per serving
Ingredients:
½ cup / 125 ml cold brewed Green Tea
½ cup frozen Cranberries
1 cup Strawberries, fresh or frozen
1 Banana
1 tbsp Maple Syrup, or mild honey (optional)
Blend until smooth and enjoy.
Optional extras:
1/4 cup Oats
1/2 cup Greek Yogurt
Either, or both of these additions will turn this from a sugar bomb smoothie to a healthy one that will keep you feeling fuller for longer and cause slow absorption of the carbs. Plus make it more suitable if you are diabetic or pre-diabetic – minus the maple syrup, of course. If you do require a little sweetener try adding a couple of dates to the mix.
