I rarely do well selecting pears; it always seems they jump from ‘turnip’ to rotten whenever I look away! Unfortunately, that happens so frequently I often don’t buy them. However, when I get it right they are amongst my favorite fruits.
So, what to do about this recipe … will I, or won’t I, try it? Yes, I did. But let me give you a little tip … don’t use the ‘turnip’ pears! Having bought some, I managed to get one just before it went ‘off’. It was juicy and sweet and made this smoothie taste delicious.
The recipe comes from Laura at aBeautifulPlate, and is rich in protein from the kefir/yogurt and the hemp seeds. I put some juice from the lime in, too, as well as the zest, so there was some extra Vitamin C. Laura says …
I kept this smoothie really simple with only a handful of ingredients. Kefir is my all-time favorite dairy choice for smoothies! It has the tartness and tang of yogurt, but with a much thinner consistency, making it perfect for blending. It is available in most grocery stores (in the refrigerated dairy section), but feel free to substitute it with low-fat plain yogurt.
