No, it wasn’t a fight (but we could come up with quite a few ‘contenders’ without trying too hard, lol!) Berry Beet Pear are the ingredients in this tasty smoothie recipe. (I had to correct that as I’d typed ‘beat’ … see, even I’m confused, lol!)
I’ve seen variations on this smoothie in various places – and now contribute my own. Why? Well I set out to make Emilie’s recipe (at EmilieEats) only to discover I didn’t have enough berries. So what’s a girl to do when she does not have all the correct ingredients? Why make substitutions, of course. So today I substituted a pear where I fell short in berries.
However, thanks to Emilie at EmilieEats for the basic recipe that was the inspiration – see her recipe are at the end of the post. Emilie thinks beets have a bad rap; she says …
Let’s be honest here: 95% of the population thinks beets taste like dirt. They definitely can taste like dirty dirt if you cook them wrong, but I promise if you find the right recipe (aka this smoothie), you’ll hit a hot pink jackpot! … The slight sweetness of the beets actually complement the berries really well, so there’s no earthy dirty taste in this smoothie!

Recipe: Pear Beet Berry Smoothie
I posted a recipe recently that included a little balsamic vinegar, so I thought, why can’t I use ready prepared, vacuum-packed, very slightly pickled, save-all-the-hassle beets?
Then I thought, can I get off with just a few greens without losing that vibrant color?
And as I like to make meal-in-a-glass smoothies I added a few more ingredients. We were pleased with the results. Sooo, what do you think?
Serves 2
Ingredients:
- 1 medium Banana, frozen
- 1½ cups Strawberries, frozen
- 1 Pear
- 1-2 medium Beets, vacuum-packed, chopped
(you might want to start with one beet) - 2 cups Almond Milk, or milk of your choice
- 2 tablespoons Chia Seeds
- 1/2 cup Oats
- small handful Mache or few stems fresh Parsley
- a few Arugula leaves
- splash of Lemon juice
Blend until smooth and enjoy.
I used 1 beet and combined with the greens the color was not so vibrant, but still an interesting bright pink-purple.
