It’s great as a WAKE-ME-UP! breakfast smoothie – all that caffeine from the espresso and cocoa! But it’s also great as a healthy snack in the mid afternoon when you feel sleepy after lunch. It has protein and healthy fats in the nut butter balancing out the sweetness from the fruit.
This recipe from Katie at 24CarrotLife has peanut butter, but you can vary it with almond butter and have a double almond smoothie – almond milk and almond butter. Katie says this is …
My absolute favorite smoothie that wakes me up in the morning and keeps me full thanks to plant-based protein powder and healthy fat from peanut butter.

Recipe: Nut Butter Espresso Smoothie
Serves 1-2
Ingredients:
- 1 cup Almond Milk, unsweetened
- 1/4 cup Espresso, cold
- 1 cup Ice cubes
- 1/2 Banana, frozen
- 1 scoop Chocolate Protein Powder* OR 2 tablespoons Cocoa powder
- 1 tablespoon natural Peanut Butter
* If you do not want to use protein powder then 1/4 cup oats has similar number of calories, is more filling and contains soluble fiber so is good for your digestion. If using oats then it’s ‘plus’ cocoa not ‘or’.
Blend until smooth, drink and wake up, lol!
