We have another coffee smoothie for you to try; this time from Sonia at TheHealthyFoodie – the recipe is at the end. Coffee, cocoa and hazelnut butter – that sounds just like a nutella smoothie, mmm!
If you don’t have hazelnut butter you can substitute another nut butter or make your own. If you haven’t made hazelnut butter before it’s really simple. Just toast the nuts, remove the skin and blend in a food processor for several minutes until the oil is released and you have hazelnut butter.
Back to the smoothie. Sonia warns that some advance planning is required – but don’t get worried, she says …
Like all smoothies, this one comes together in a breeze and is highly portable. However, it does require a little bit of thinking ahead, for it contains cold coffee and soaked hazelnuts. So if you intend to have one in the morning, you will have to make your coffee before going to bed this time, as opposed to after getting out of it!

Recipe: Hazelnut Mocha Smoothie
Serves 1
Ingredients:
- ¾ cup cold strong Coffee
- 12 toasted Hazelnuts, soaked overnight
- 100g silk Tofu*
- ¼ cup 0% fat Greek Yogurt
- 1 tbsp Hemp Hearts
- 2 tbsp extra dark Cocoa powder
- 1 tsp Hazelnut Butter
- ½ ripe Banana
* If you do not like, or do not have, silken tofu then try substituting extra yogurt. And since you have to do a little advance prep, strain the yogurt in the refrigerator overnight and you’ll have a lovely thick substitute, not unlike the tofu.
Blend all the ingredients until smooth/ Pour into a glass and enjoy.
