[Recipe] Gina’s French Toast Smoothie

Gina’s French Toast Smoothie

What is your favorite breakfast? I have to say French toast is pretty high up on my food loves for any time of day, never mind breakfast. Especially with caramelized apples … mmmm! And loads of cinnamon. A good second would be crepe pommes canelle – in many ways not dissimilar.

Anyway, this French toast smoothie recipe is from Gina at RunningToTheKitchen who says …

… most of you probably wouldn’t appreciate me pushing a decadent French toast recipe on you while you’re in the “healthy” mindset, [so] I’m bottling up everything we love about French toast and putting it into a protein packed healthy smoothie.

Recipe: Gina’s French Toast Smoothie

Serves 1

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup Friendship Dairies 1% Cottage Cheese

  • 1 pitted Medjool Date, soaked in hot water for 5 minutes

  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla bean paste (you can substitute vanilla extract)

  • 1/4 teaspoon Almond extract

  • 1/2 teaspoon Cinnamon

  • 1/4 teaspoon Nutmeg

  • 1/2 teaspoon Xanthan Gum (*optional but makes it nice and thick)

  • 1/2 scoop vanilla whey Protein Powder (*optional for added protein)

  • 1/2 cup unsweetened vanilla Almond Milk

  • handful Ice cubes

  • whipped Cream for topping

Blend until smooth and enjoy.

If you prefer NOT to use protein powder then check out our Protein Powders Substitute article.

Note:
Almond milk is a popular choice for vegans and the ‘health conscious’ as it gives the impression of milk without the fat.

However, while almonds are a good source of protein, almond milk is not a good source of protein, unless you buy fortified almond milk. Select your product carefully as some contain carrageenan which has a bad reputation. While carrageenan is a natural product used to thicken a wide range of foods products, it has no nutritional value and may even be dangerous, causing digestive issues for some people: inflammation, gut irritation, ulcerative colitis and worse.

Discover Why Using Manuka Honey Can Enhance Your Health

Update Why Manuka Honey Stands Out When it comes to sweeteners, honey has long been a staple in many households. However, not all honey is created equally. Manuka honey, sourced from New Zealand's Manuka tree, is known for its unique properties that pack a nutritious punch. Unlike regular honey, which is often pasteurized and treated, Manuka honey retains natural compounds that contribute to its healing effects. This honey shines in its antimicrobial capabilities, making it a desirable choice for health enthusiasts looking for more than just sweetness. Powerful Health Benefits of Manuka Honey What makes Manuka honey a cut above the rest? Its special compound, methylglyoxal, endows it with powerful antibacterial properties that regular honey lacks. Studies demonstrate that Manuka honey can aid wound healing, soothe sore throats, and even combat harmful bacteria associated with tooth decay. These benefits go beyond the traditional use of honey in the kitchen; they offer practical solutions for maintaining health and well-being. Cultural Significance and Usage For centuries, communities in New Zealand have used Manuka honey not just as a sweetener, but as a natural remedy for various ailments. Its long-standing cultural significance adds another layer of value. Similarly, its incorporation into folk medicine highlights how the benefits of Manuka honey resonate with those seeking a natural alternative to pharmaceuticals. Why You Should Choose Manuka Over Regular Honey Regular honey can be delicious, but it often lacks the health benefits packed into every jar of Manuka honey. In essence, while traditional honey can be a tasty addition to tea or toast, it doesn't provide the same healing properties. By choosing Manuka honey, a small investment towards your daily well-being can pay off big in terms of added immunity and natural energy boost. Tips for Incorporating Manuka Honey into Your Diet If you're ready to enhance your wellness game, here are some easy ways to incorporate Manuka honey into your daily activities. Consider using it as a natural sweetener in smoothies, drizzling it over Greek yogurt, or stirring it into herbal teas for that extra health boost. Scientific Studies and Findings Scientific research continuously backs the multiple health benefits of Manuka honey. Studies emphasize its role in wound healing due to its antimicrobial properties, which are crucial for preventing infections. Moreover, certain studies have linked the regular consumption of Manuka honey to improved digestive health, helping to regulate gut bacteria. Common Misconceptions about Honey A common misconception is that all honeys are equal. Many might overlook the significant differences in health benefits they offer. Whereas most regular honeys undergo processing that can strip away beneficial nutrients, Manuka honey maintains its potent properties, proving it to be more than just a sweetener—it's a health elixir. Your Action Plan for a Healthier Diet So, why not take action? By swapping out regular honey for Manuka honey in your kitchen, you're not just making a small dietary change; you're embracing a lifestyle shift that prioritizes health. Whether you’re a busy professional or a parent trying to balance numerous responsibilities, integrating this superfood can have lasting effects on your energy levels and overall wellness! Explore the world of Manuka honey today and start reaping its incredible benefits!
