Everyone around me seems to have or is just getting over flu. I plan to do everything I can to keep it well away. So I’m topping up my immune system with lots of Vitamin C in this smoothie, plus the anti-bacterial qualities found in the ginger, some cinnamon for its antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties, and I’m going to throw in a little honey, too. You can’t have too much of a good thing, or so they say.

Recipe: Flu Season Immune-Boosting Smoothie
Ingredients: (serves 2; cals 300; fiber 6 g)
- 2 medium oranges, peeled
- 1 half-inch knob of fresh ginger, peeled
- 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/4 of an avocado
- 3 cups of romaine lettuce, washed
- 1 cup nonfat yogurt
- 1 teaspoon honey
- 1 handful of ice cubes
