At last, a mango smoothie with mangoes the way I usually find them – GREEN! I obviously live too far north to find a lovely ripe mango in the store. All I ever find are hard green things that rot before they ripen on my kitchen counter … or maybe I just shop in the wrong places.
Manila Spoon’s Abby tells about growing up with a mango tree in her backyard. She tells how her Grandma used to smoke the tree to stop the bugs getting the lovely fruit, and how they’d gather them as children and then run off to the beach for a swim. It all sounds very exotic to this cold-climate girl, lol!
Abby tells us …
I know it seems weird to use mangoes that are still green and not fully ripe – still kind of tart and tangy. But that is the secret to this truly refreshing and flavorful smoothie … Green mangos and milk may seem quite an odd combination but they are actually perfect together as the tartness of the mango contrast with the milk’s creamy flavor while the sweetener cuts on the tanginess of the fruit. It is a delectably sweet and creamy smoothie with a hint of tang! And for me, that is my kind of smoothie!
