I received a comment yesterday on Facebook.com from Cynthia Melendy:
“The thing is, I love crunchy chewy food”
….which raises the question – When is a smoothie not a smoothie? Answer: When its crunchy!
Of course, its not really as simple as that. Many summer smoothie recipes include ice cubes or crushed ice. Sure, this is good for chilling a smoothie to be more refreshing on hot weather and it adds that “crunch” sensation most of us enjoy.
But there are several other ways to give your “smoothie” a bit of a crunch, if that’s what you prefer – all the year round…
You can add items such as listed below to your blended smoothie mix:
- granola cereal
- grapenuts, muesli, flakes
- a few mini-chocolate chips, raisins, dried cranberries…
You get the idea…
Prefer chewy rather than crunchy? Then let the crunchy additions sit in the mix for an hour or so, and they will absorb moisture from the blended smoothie – and the texture goes from crunchy to chewy!
For a change, on the Next Page you’ll find a recipe for something different – an American “Breakfast Parfait”, with the intro from food.com…
