While we give many recipes at Drink Me Healthy to suit all palettes and many needs, we generally advocate healthy, filling smoothies. However, every now and again it’s good to have a treat. And that’s what we have here: a tasty, low calorie smoothie that is just like a banoffee pie! (Banoffee Pie is a lovely mix of bananas, cream and caramel on a pastry or buttery cracker base, mmm!) So if you need a little treat this will help nicely.
We know many folks do not like to use protein powders, so we have included some substitutes you can use instead.
One scoop of protein powder contains 100-120 calories and 25-30 grams protein. While some on this list may not offer the same level of protein, they do all offer many healthy nutrients.
Try one of these Protein Powder Substitutes:
1/4 cup Oats gives 6 grams protein
1/4 cup pumpkin seeds gives 9g protein
1/2 cup Cottage Cheese gives 12 grams
1/2 cup Quinoa gives 12 grams protein
Add 2 cups of Spinach to any of these and you increase your protein by another 10 grams.

The recipe comes from Blair at TheSeasonedMom. She says ...
Instead of toffee [sauce], this protein shake uses caramel extract and an optional drizzle of caramel syrup to accomplish a similar flavor. Paired with bananas, it’s HEAVENLY! Plus, the frozen banana makes the base of this smoothie so incredibly creamy, that you’ll swear you’re enjoying an ice cream milkshake!
As an added bonus, this smoothie is a great way to use up overripe bananas that are sitting on your counter! When I have some excess bananas, I just peel them, slice them, and put them in individual baggies in the freezer. That way I always have some frozen fruit ready to go in the morning when I want to toss it in my blender!
Note: You can find caramel extract (or caramel flavoring) in the baking aisle of most grocery stores — right alongside the vanilla extract.
